Taido's History
Seiken Shukumine, Saiko Shihan - Founder of Gensei Ryu Karate,
developed a new Martial Art over a 20-year period (1945-1965).
Shukumine named it Taido - the way of the Body and Mind.
Based on 5 different movements resembling natural elements,
Taido uses spiraling, jumping, falling, twisting and tumbling to
gain power, speed and new angles to both attack and defend at the
same time. This makes Taido a fast and efficient form of Martial Art.
Although the dynamics of Taido is constantly evolving, Taido still
has strong roots in the traditional Okinawan Budo.

Taido was founded in Japan and has spread to many other countries
including the US, England, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Norway,
France, Portugal, the Netherlands, and since 1997 Australia.

Taido in Australia
Taido started at the University of New South Wales in 1997 by
Fredrik Utbult, 5th Dan Kyoshi and Louise Carlsson, 4th Dan Renshi.
Both Fredrik and Louise were instructors, national coaches, and
national team members in their home country of Sweden before
bringing Taido to Australia.

In its short time, Australian Taido has made a huge impact on the
Taido world with excellent performances at international competitions,
and is known for our fun and great Taido spirit - which is sought
after at dojos all around the world.

Australia is also the host for the Asia Pacific Friendship Games!
